The Safer summary

We partnered with police forces, retailers, and BID groups across the UK to deploy Safer POD® S1, S3 and S4 crime prevention solutions. Results across deployment periods included a 93% reduction in violence and public order incidents, a 75% reduction in theft, a 71% reduction in reported crime in one deployment, 81% of retail customers feeling safer in store, and over £322,500 in estimated police savings. Initiatives demonstrate how data-led partnerships and proactive visual deterrence can reduce recorded crime in public and retail spaces, improve safety, and free up police resources.

Building on earlier collaborations with retailers and constabularies across the UK, we have delivered successful crime prevention deployments with partners in policing, retail, and business improvement districts (BIDs) over several months.

These initiatives produced significant, measurable results. Our collaborations have successfully lowered crime incident numbers, delivered substantial cost savings for the police, and had a transformative impact on the safety and security of both retail outlets and community spaces.

Collaboration for crime prevention solutions

Amid growing interest in private sector security solutions amongst police, government bodies and community action groups, our recent partnerships have included several constabularies and public bodies.

Key collaborators have included Durham Constabulary, Merseyside Police, Northumbria, and Warwickshire Constabulary, alongside Liverpool BID and several leading retailers.

Alongside working with retailers themselves, these initiatives represent an innovative approach to collaboration between constabularies, BID groups, and private-sector crime prevention specialists to tackle growing threats to public safety and escalating retail crime.

Retail crime and public safety

Collaboration allows all parties to benefit from resource sharing. All deployments were informed by crime data and hotspot analysis in a process that was mutually supportive. This ensured that our approach focused the deployed solutions within the areas that need it most, with this further reducing the resource strain on police and other stakeholders.

The results of our crime prevention technology

Our work with Durham Constabulary was dubbed Operation Short Circuit. This was the largest, most widespread partnership within this period of increased activity. The initiative saw the deployment of Safer POD® S1 and Safer POD® S4 solutions across 17 high-risk locations, resulting in substantial cost savings and reductions in recorded incidents.

The successful trial of the Safer POD® S1 led to a 95% reduction in shoplifting at a high-risk store throughout Summer 2025; thereafter, Operation Short Circuit was established and rolled out our solution across the county, with notable success.

Key results:

  • More than £311,000 saved in estimated crime-related costs.

  • 93% reduction in violence and public order incidents.

  • 75% reduction in theft at deployed locations.

Safer POD® solutions are deployed using crime data and hotspot analysis, ensuring a focused, preventative approach that supports retail staff, improves safety for customers, and reduces repeat demand on police and partners.

Moreover, a deployment of a Safer POD® solution within a retail premises by Northumbria Police resulted in a significant drop in reported crime whilst also creating a substantial home office cost of crime saving. This allowed for resources to be allocated with greater efficiency to the front line, where needed.

Key results:

  • 71% reduction in reported crime over 2-months.

  • £11,500 Home Office cost of crimes saving.

In partnership with Merseyside Police, our Safer POD® S1 and Safer POD® S4 solutions played a leading role in the prevention of motorcycle theft at hotels across Liverpool City Centre during the Isle of Man TT. Up to 7,000 motorcyclists travelling through the city had their vehicles protected during Operation Needle in 2026, with zero reported bike thefts representing a significant repeat success for the initiative.

Key result:

  • No reported motorcycle thefts within Liverpool City Centre in both 2025 and 2026 during Operation Needle.

Since the introduction of the pods, there have been no reported motorcycle thefts within Liverpool City Centre in both 2025 and 2026 during Operation Needle, highlighting the effectiveness of the pods to drive down motorcycle thefts.

Our work with Merseyside Police also led to a partnership with the Liverpool BID group. Our solutions were deployed to reduce shrinkage in two retail outlets. Both retailers reported positive outcomes from having our Safer POD® S1 device, with one store reporting a substantial reduction in incurred fragrance department losses during the busy festive period.

Key results:

  • £20,000 reduction in fragrance department loss over the festive trading period compared to the previous year.

  • Improved staff safety and well-being with a stronger sense of surveillance.

The introduction of the Safer Pod in Boots, provided by the BID, has deterred opportunistic theft and improved staff visibility. With more time spent at the front of the store and fewer call-outs to other store areas, the pod’s location has encouraged customer engagement and provided stronger overall coverage.

In another large-scale deployment with an English police force, 8 Safer POD solutions were deployed across high footfall areas. In what became a sustained initiative across the winter months of 2025, we utilised a blend of our Safer POD® S4 and Safer POD® S1 solutions to target shoplifting, anti-social behaviour, and violence against women and girls.

Key results:

  • 17% reduction in deployed incidents.

  • 42% reduction in ASB.

  • 38% reduction in theft offences.

Warwickshire Constabulary partnered with us on a retail crime prevention deployment, sharing statistics gathered from a customer survey conducted by a leading supermarket in which the solution was installed. The findings stated that our solution directly made customers feel more secure when shopping.

Key result:

  • 81% of those spoken to felt safer due to the presence of Safer POD® in the store.

Why are Safer POD® solutions effective at preventing crime?

The results achieved across the duration of these deployments were encouraging and showcased the ability of our solutions to proactively deter crime before it has the chance to develop.

Having been proven to be effective in previous retail trials, our recommended solutions for these deployments were the Safer POD® S1 and Safer POD® S4. These solutions create a strong visual and audio presence which functions as an immediate, effective deterrent to criminal activity like intrusion, theft, anti-social behaviour.

Our solutions enabled a heightened self-awareness of behaviour amongst potential criminals, reducing crime while saving police time and resources. This is achieved by eliminating inattentional blindness, this being the phenomenon wherein humans can completely miss a fully visible event or object due to having deep focus elsewhere.

Instead, the presence of a highly visible deterrent is enough to disrupt the intent of offenders by immediately capturing attention.

Unlike traditional security measures that rely on responding to incidents once they have occurred, Safer POD® solutions prevent crime before it happens.

Both devices offer rapid deployment, scalability, and autonomous risk mitigation. The Safer POD® S1 captures HDR-quality images while the imposing 3.6m tall Safer POD® S4 is equipped with bi-spectrum active thermal detection up to 100m.

Safer POD® S1/X1

State-of-the-art intruder detection. Modular and rapidly deployable, this compact device is ideal for smaller deployments.

  • 360° detection zone
  • Battery and solar for full autonomy
  • Anti-masking sensors
  • Dynamic luminance for enhanced visual deterrence (X1 only).

The future of retail crime and public safety

The results from these deployments demonstrate a clear path forward for the delivery of crime prevention security solutions. An effective crime prevention strategy can no longer be reliant on reactive security measures.

With strong partnerships between police, retailers, local authorities, and BID groups, our crime prevention technology has had proven success in preventing incidents before they can occur, driven by a proactive data-led approach.

Collaboration has led to improved community safety, enhancing the confidence of the public and retail staff alike, while enabling more police resources to be allocated where they are needed most.

Across the partnerships discussed above, including Durham Constabulary, Northumbria Police, Merseyside Police, Warwickshire Police, Liverpool BID Company and leading retailers, our deployments have delivered measurable outcomes.

These include:

  • A 93% reduction in violence and public order incidents and a 75% reduction in theft with Durham Constabulary

  • A 71% reduction in reported crime with Northumbria Police
